Located on Stadionplein in Amsterdam, this building dates from the 1920s. The residence has an area of about 100 m2. The client was looking for a warm quirky home. The apartment has characteristic ensuite doors separating front and back rooms. This in-between space was unused at the start of the project. The question was how to come up with an interesting interpretation of this in-between space.
The in-between space was given a function: space was created for a climate closet and lounge area. The design plays with negative space, with this space acting as a connecting link between other spaces in the building. The custom rug with round cutout is an example of this. In addition to the interior, the exterior was also redesigned. A unique city garden in Amsterdam with canopy for wet summer evenings.
The design is primarily driven by color and shape. A custom rug with cutout forms a central element. In addition, classic pieces such as the Fogia bond system and the Officina lounge chair were used. In the garden, oak beams were used, which develop a natural beauty over the years due to aging.
